Amla also known as Gooseberry has a rich content of vitamins and iron. Regular consumption of Gooseberry juice prevents digestive disorders, brings glow to the skin, controls hair fall and whitening of hair. Amla is available from the month of December till the month of April, but there are various ways to preserve it for the entire year. Let us have a look at how we can prepare Amla juice at home.

Apart from juice, Amlas are also used for making pickles, chutneys, jams and murabbas in Indian households.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Gooseberry (Amla)

How To Prepare?

  • Cut Amla into small pieces.
  • Take out the seeds.
  • Add as many pieces as you can in a mixer and make a fine paste.
  • Keep on adding the remaining pieces after each blend.
  • Take a clean cotton cloth and wrap the paste in it.
  • Squeeze the wrapped cloth with your hands to collect the juice in a bowl.
  • Put the juice in the mixing jar and blend the remaining pieces for a smooth consistency.
  • Repeat until all the pieces are completely used up.
  • 1 kg Gooseberries will give you approximately 600-700 grams of juice.
  • Transfer the juice to a plastic container and refrigerate it.

How To Preserve?

  • When stored at a cool temperature, this juice remains fresh up to 15 days.
  • The size of the jar in which you store the juice should be equal to the quantity of the juice. If you have extracted 500 grams of juice, keep it in a container that has a capacity of 500 grams.
  • Add 2 Tablespoons of Sodium Lactate in the juice and dissolve it thoroughly.
  • Sodium Lactate can be found at any chemist or stores that sell food chemicals.
  • This way you can store the juice in your refrigerator for about 8-10 months.
  • Amla juice can also be preserved in the form of ice cubes.

How To Consume?

  • Take 2 tablespoons of juice or say 1 ice cube.
  • Mix it with warm water.
  • Add 2 teaspoons of honey or black salt to taste.
  • Have immediately.
